How to Apply

HOW TO APPLY:

Review the information provided in the magnet program brochure(s) and in the program descriptions.

Review the Magnet Transportation Information to determine your child’s eligibility for BCPS transportation to a particular magnet program. 

Select up to 3 magnet programs for application.

Kindergarten applicants MUST meet Maryland State Age-of-Entry requirements or be tested for early admission.  Kindergarten applicants for the 2018-2019 school year MUST be age 5 by 9/1/2018, or the parents MUST apply to their zoned elementary school for early admission into kindergarten testing.

A child may only be considered for early admission into kindergarten testing for the 2018-2019 school year if he/she will be age 5 after 9/1/2018 and on or before 10/14/2018.  A copy of the letter requesting the early admission into kindergarten testing must be submitted to BCPS Magnet Programs at the time of application.

Choose the method for applying.  Parents may apply online or submit a paper application.

o Online applications are accepted until 1 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017.  To apply online, you will need an active email account.  Important updates and reminders will be sent to the email address provided.  The online application can be accessed using the “Online Magnet Application System” link on the left-side menu.

o Paper applications must be postmarked on or before Friday, November 17, 2017. (Certified mailing is strongly recommended.) The two-page paper application can be downloaded from this site using the “Applications” link on the left-side menu.


Complete and submit the application.

CAUTION:  Applications MUST be submitted by the parent or legal guardian. Applications submitted by the student or anyone other than the parent or legal guardian risk being disqualified.

Prior to submitting the application, parents should carefully review program selections.

Any change in program selection(s) requires the submission of a revised application on or before the application deadline.  NO program selection changes can be made after Friday, November 17, 2017.

Submit only one application per applicant.  ALL applications MUST be submitted by Friday, November 17, 2017.

Parents who submit an application online will receive an email confirmation. 

Parents should keep a copy of the application for their records.

NOTE:  Applications postmarked or received without a legible postmark after the November 17, 2017, deadline are not processed.

Submit documentation from non-BCPS schools.  Applicants to high school magnet programs may need to submit additional documentation:

o Parents of students who attended a non-BCPS school for any portion of the 2016-2017 school year are required to submit report card(s) at the time of application. 

o Parents of students who are attending a non-BCPS school for the first quarter/trimester of the 2017-2018 school year are required to submit the report card when available, but not later than December 15, 2017.

o Parent of students who are attending a non-BCPS school and who have documented testing accommodations as part of an active educational plan are required to submit a copy of the testing accommodation requirements from the plan at the time of application.
