Unit 1: Have I Got a Great Story for You! – Exploring Story Elements
In this unit, students listen to and read a variety of literary texts in order to retell stories.
Unit 2: Amazing World! - Exploring Elements of Nonfiction
In this unit, students will listen to, view, and read a variety of nonfiction texts to identify the main topics and key details and use illustrations and text features to locate information.
Unit 3: Tales Over Time
In this unit, students will explore folktales as stories that have been passed down over time that often contain a lesson or central message.
Unit 4: Unique Animals Everywhere
This informational unit contains selections of informational texts for which students will explore the distinct features of different animals, examine how animals work together in teams, develop an understanding of how animals survive in nature, and learn about people who train animals and work to preserve their habitats.
Unit 5: Exploring the Concept of Change Through Literature
In this unit, students will read, listen to, and view a variety of literary texts in order to explore and discover generalizations for the concept of change and to discuss the central messages of the texts.
Unit 6: Figure It Out!
In this unit, students will read and explore two genres of informational text: biographies and "How-to" texts.
