The SAT Suite of Assessments
Each BCPS high school administers the Preliminary Scholastic Achievement Test (PSAT8/9) to all 9th graders and the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) to all 10th and 11th graders in the fall each year. These administrations help prepare students for the Scholastic Achievement Test (SAT), which all 11th graders take in the spring each year.
Students can prepare for the SATs by enrolling in their high school's SAT Prep Class for math and/or for disciplinary literacy. Students can also prepare by linking their College Board accounts to Khan Academy. When they do this, they receive personalized instruction and customized practice in order to improve their scores. For more information, please contact your school counselor.
Advanced Placement Courses
Each BCPS high school offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses. AP courses give students the opportunity to take college-level coursework, and potentially earn college credit, while still in high school. For a list of AP courses offered at your high school, please contact your school counselor.
