Social Studies

Vision

The National Council for the Social Studies defines social studies as "the integrated study of the social sciences and humanities to promote civic competence." Our vision is to create historically literate and well informed citizens who can apply the lessons of the past to the problems of the present; who utilize critical thinking, problem solving and civic action to become engaged in shaping and directing the future of our local, national, and world communities.

Mission

The Office of Social Studies coordinates the development and implementation of the K-12 social studies program, facilitates enrichment opportunities for students and provides professional development activities designed to improve the teaching and learning of social studies for teachers.
