English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

The ESOL Office offers summer programming for English Learners with an entering or beginning level of English proficiency. The middle school program will focus on English Language Development, study skills, and college and career readiness. The high school program for students entering grades 9-12 offers participants the opportunity to earn course credit to satisfy a graduation requirement, and to participate in soccer or art.

Extended School Year (ESY)
|
Identified students with disabilities receive ESY services as determined by the IEP (Individualized Education Program) team. ESY focuses on the maintenance of critical life skills as well as academic and functional goals/objectives identified on the IEP. Special education teachers and related service providers provide specialized instruction and services during ESY.

Extended Year Learning Program (EYLP) – High School
|
The High School Extended Year Learning Program offers students the opportunity to work toward recovery or advancement of credit for graduation. Students participate in learning experiences including teacher-directed instruction and independent online work.

Extended Year Learning Program (EYLP) – Middle School
|
The Middle School Extended Year Learning Program addresses students needing reading and/or mathematics support. The program consists of blocks of instruction dedicated to English language arts, mathematics, science, technology, engineering, and the arts.

Elementary School-based Summer Programs

Each elementary school will use data unique to its learners in order to build a summer program that meets the needs of their students. Therefore, summer program offerings will differ from school-to-school. If you have any questions about the summer program at your student’s elementary school, please contact the school office.

In the Math Pioneers 6 Program, students will engage in standards aligned instruction and assessments in grade 7A content. This program will prepare current Math 6 students for enrollment in Math 7B/8 Accelerated during grade 7.
In the Math Pioneers 7 Program, students will engage in standards aligned instruction and assessments in grade 8 content. This program will prepare current Math 7 students for enrollment in Algebra 1 during grade 8.
The design of both Math Pioneers 6 and Math Pioneers 7 supports student access to Algebra 1 by grade 8.

5th Quarter–Algebra I

In the 5th Quarter Program, first time Algebra 1 students will engage in efficacy building, reasoning routines, and standards-based instruction and assessments. Students will demonstrate additional evidence of mastery towards earning of a full high school credit for Algebra 1 during the summer. This design ensures that they stay with their cohort towards coursework beyond Algebra 2. Through student-centered instruction, which integrates high-yield instructional strategies, direct teacher re-engagement, and personalized learning opportunities, students will engage in content aligned to one marking period where they can demonstrate mastery of mathematics standards while building a positive identity as a mathematics learner and earning an Algebra 1 credit.

Secondary School-based Programs

Secondary schools were offered the opportunity to develop a school-based program, in addition to offering their central-based programs. This is an optional opportunity for both middle schools and high schools. If you have any questions about the summer program at your student’s elementary school, please contact the school office.
